Porcello among Tigers’ 12 cuts: The Tigers trimmed 12 players from their spring roster Wednesday: RHP Armando Galarraga and LHP Macay McBride were optioned to Triple-A, while RHP Rick Porcello was optioned to Class A; RHP Jeff Gerbe, C Joe Bowen, C Dusty Ryan, C James Skelton, 1B Jeff Larish, INF Daniel Worth, OF Matthew Joyce, OF Wilkin Ramirez and OF Clete Thomas were reassigned to minor league camp. Now only 46 players remain in major league camp.

Tigers at the plate: Ivan Rodriguez led off the game with a home run, while Miguel Cabrera connected with a solo shot in the fourth inning. Cabrera ended up going 2-for-3 with two RBIs in the game. Joe Bowen drove in the game-winning run with a single to left in the top of the ninth inning off Chris Schroder.
Nationals at the plate: Matt Whitney hit a three-run homer against right-hander Zach Miner in the eighth inning. Lastings Milledge was the only member of the Nationals to collect at least two hits in Monday’s game.
Tigers on the mound: Right-handers Justin Verlander and Armando Galarraga pitched a combined six shutout innings.
Nationals on the mound: Left-hander John Lannan pitched 3 2/3 innings and gave up three runs on five hits. Right-hander Tyler Clippard pitched 3 1/3 innings without giving up a run.
